Paleokastro (Oude Burcht) is gebouwd boven op een heuvel tussen Paleopoli\/Scandeia en Mitata en het was Kythira\u2019s hoofdstad in de Antieke Oudheid (de vestingstad dateert uit de 6<sup>e<\/sup> eeuw voor Christus). Tijdens de wandeling zie je restanten van de burcht, opgravingsvelden en de kerkjes van Agios Kosmas en Agios Giorgos. Staand op de top (323 m), met adembenemende uitzichten over het gehele eiland, besef je dat je op een historisch belangrijke plek staat. Deelnemers aan deze tocht dienen een goede lichamelijke conditie te hebben en stevige wandelschoenen te dragen.
