De grootste lokale feestdag op Kythira is die van de naamdag van Panagia Myrtidiotissa, welke jaarlijks wordt gevierd op 24 september. Het belangrijkste klooster van Panagia Myrtidiotissa in Griekenland staat op Kythira en is gebouwd op de plek waar een herder de beeltenis van Maria gevonden heeft in de brandende mirtestruiken. Veel Griekse pelgrims komen speciaal naar Kythira om dit klooster te bezoeken en de prachtige icoon van de Myrtidiotissa te aanbidden.<\/p>\n

Zeer bijzonder is de dienst op de naamdag zelf, waarbij meer dan 1000 gelovigen aanwezig zullen zijn. De hoogmis begint om 0900 uur en loopt rond 1030 uur af. Vervolgens wordt de icoon in processie rond het kloosterterrein gedragen, voorafgegaan door de fanfare van Potamos. Na afloop worden er koffie en frisdranken geschonken en deelt men zelfgebakken lekkernijen uit.<\/p>\n

Dit jaar is het grote afsluitende zomerfeest in Agia Pelagia, verbonden aan de naamdag van de Myrtidiotissa, op zaterdag 23 september, vanaf 2100 uur. De boulevard is afgezet, volop muziek en dans. Weer zo\u2019n feest waar u bij moet zijn!<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
