Op 21 mei 1864 schonken de Engelsen, die sinds 1809 de scepter zwaaiden over de Eptanissa, de eilanden aan de nieuwe Griekse koning, George I.<br \/>\nOp deze feestdag is er in Chora een speciale dienst in de Estavromenos Kerk. Dit jaar zal ook de president van Griekenland aanwezig zijn, de heer Prokopios Pavlopoulos. Na afloop volgt een kranslegging op het plein van Chora, worden er toespraken gehouden en is er een militaire parade. De Fanfare uit Potamos speelt onder andere het Griekse volkslied en schoolkinderen voeren traditionele Kythiriaanse dansen op.
