Pyrgos House – Kythira Greece

From the Blog

Winter work

Quietness has settled on Kythira. Every now and then you will meet a walking tourist, islanders are still harvesting olives and preparations for Christmas are being made. We mainly spend the winter months checking the routes for our walking guide ‘Kythira on foot’ and our three Walking Tours (Kythira Walking Tour, Round South and Round North) in order to update the descriptions for the next walking season. And to clear once again any overgrown paths, I always carry a big pair of secateurs with me in my backpack…

Tomorrow we start with the route from Agia Pelagia to Platia Ammos, a diverse 22 km track with large variations in height and stunning views, especially from Panagia Despina tou Vouno and from Moudari Lighthouse. Half way we will have a break in Karavas’ old village kafeneion (where time seems to stand still) enjoying a Greek coffee and chatting with Poppi and Panayotis.
