Moudari Lighthouse

It’s always great to be in the Moudari Lighthouse. The lighthouse, located on the north cape of the island, was built in 1857 and with its 25 metres height is one of the tallest lighthouses in the Aegean. Just the walk to it is magical. My favourite route is along the narrow rocky path that starts from Agios Nikolaos Bay. After a climb of 15 minutes the lighthouse appears ahead and with each step closer, you become more impressed with the place and the building.

Yesterday I was there again, during the first trip of our Walking Group Holiday. The lighthouse keepers were waiting for us. We were warmly welcomed with cool drinks and biscuits and given extensive information about the Moudari lighthouse including its history and operation. The impressive view from the top was indescribable.

Afterwards we continued on our way to Platia Ammos on the narrow path inland, between flowering thyme and sage plants. I’m sure I will often come back to the Moudari!
