Pyrgos House – Kythira Greece

Tomatoes, zucchinis, peppers and much more

Many Kytherians have their own gardens and grow a large variety of organic vegetables and fruit. The sun and warm temperatures ensure that the crops grow well. The widespread humidity also plays a significant role. Like the last few nights, when low clouds coming from the west cross the island eastwards, there’s no rain but the high humidity covers everything with a fine layer of dew. Ideal for the green garden.
I have just visited the Potamos Sunday morning market; the stalls were full of the finest and freshest produce: tomatoes, zucchinis, peppers, beans, melons and onions. As well as this market, there is a market in Livadi during the summer on Wednesday evenings. Have a look and be impressed.
